Anti-Violence Project Needs Your Help!

LGBTQ Folks In Virginia: Take Our Survey and pass it along

The Anti-Violence Project of the Equality Virginia Education Fund is wrapping up its first year and still needs LGBTQ identified folks to participate in its community survey. This information will guide the work of the project and ensure that the various experiences of our community members are addressed in working against violence.

The Anti-Violence Project has been rolling along for the past 10 months with a priority of accumulating 1000 completed surveys from LGBTQ identified folks across the Commonwealth. Due to the tireless efforts of our supporters and community leaders, we are nearing our goal!

In an attempt to meet our goal sooner rather than later, we are writing to ask for your assistance at this time. Every survey provides a valuable tool that will be helpful in developing future programmatic efforts of the Anti-Violence Project. If you can share this message with everyone in your networks and ask them to do the same, we will likely SURPASS our goals this winter!

We are looking for as many people who live in or attend school in Virginia and identify somewhere along the LGBTQ spectrum to take our survey. Everyone meeting those eligibility requirements should take the survey regardless of their personal experience with violence. While there are questions pertaining to individual experiences, there are also very important questions specifically geared towards assessing the LGBTQ communities' attitudes towards violence and related concerns such as law enforcement and seeking help. All of this information will help us better understand our role in addressing and ending violence in the lives of LGBTQ/HIV-affected Virginians. And for a peek at some of what we’ve already been doing:

SOME OF THIS YEAR’S AVP HIGHLIGHTS
AVP staff, intern, and volunteers:
- Conducted 12 training/workshop sessions related to issues of violence in LGBTQ communities
- Traveled to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs Annual Roundtable with 8 representatives from our AVP!
- Distributed over 500 informational brochures, over 1000 survey flyers, and other educational materials across Virginia in a variety of settings
- Conducted a survey of domestic and sexual violence service providers and LGBTQ organizations regarding accessibility of services to LGBTQ survivors of violence
- Hosted 6 community meetings and/or film screenings in locations around the state to raise awareness on violence related concerns in LGBTQ communities
